Harmony Acres Equestrian Center – (Colorado) Through 5 years of working with VA Western Colorado Healthcare system, Harmony Acres has become a central place for local veterans to gather and experience the benefits of horses, animals, and community. Through grants from the Adaptive Sports Program, and the Trutta Fund, veterans can participate in any of their programming at no cost to them. Veterans’ families are also eligible for no-cost or reduced-cost sessions.
Individual plans are tailored to their needs, and may include elements of therapeutic riding, psychotherapy, or simply just spending time with the animals and team. They also have a large veterans’ volunteer program, with 15-20% of our active volunteers being Military Veterans.
Harmony Acres recently added a Trail Riding Program for Veterans, which allows Veterans to go out on a guided ride with some of our staff, volunteers, and instructors, as a way to be introduced to our team. This easy entry point allows Veterans a way to connect with our facility without the typical pressures of therapy or treatment.
