Here at Tactical Reintegration Project (TRP), our team of veterans has developed a diving program designed to assist active service members leaving the armed service.

About Tactical Reintegration Project

Tactical Reintegration Project – (Massachusetts) Has developed a diving program designed to assist active service members leaving the armed service. To include veterans and gold star families that have an outdoor enthusiasts mindset.

Entry Level: Their certification programs are run by East Coast Divers, New England’s premier dive center. The Scuba certification course is a 3 part program; classroom, pool, and open water certification dive training are all required to obtain certification. Once you sign up and have completed the online training, you will complete 2 classroom sessions and 4 pool sessions. The first class is focused on diving equipment while the second is focused on diving science. After the pool and classroom have been completed, you will join our top flight instructors on your certification dives around New England.

There are a couple of steps before you can get into the water – including completing the online training, your first classroom, and all relevant paperwork. Most of the paperwork can be done during the first classroom session, but it’s usually a good idea to check over the medical ahead of time and get a doctors’ sign-off as necessary.

Specialty Training: An Advanced Open Water Certification (AOW) is an impressive certification for any diver to hold. The Advanced Open Water Certification with Tactical Reintegration Project is awarded to a diver who has completed at least 4 specialty courses and 24 dives. AOW divers represent a larger commitment and typically higher skill level in divers. Boat Captains and dive guides are more likely to allow advanced divers onto their boats and will let them on more challenging dives.

While any four specialties will work for an AOW certification TRP typically recommends completing Deep Diving, Nitrox, Advanced Navigation and Search and Recovery. They suggest these courses because they feel they help to make a well rounded, confident and capable diver.

Professional Programs

Dive Guide: The Dive guide program is an introduction to the world of dive professionals. As a Diveguide, you will be qualified to lead certified divers on a variety of scuba diving adventures. You will be in charge of safety management, be able to help other divers with minor gear problems and be able to lead dive excursions safely whether it be from shore or in the water. The goal is to create well-prepared, versatile and marketable Dive Professionals. These can be completed as a shore dive or boat dive depending on the student requirements and weather conditions.

Dive Master: After completing both the Dive Guide and Science of Diving specialties you qualify for Divemaster certification. Divemaster is the next step towards Assistant Instructor and Instructor training. The Divemaster program is a recognition program. There is no additional training involved beyond Science of Diving and Diveguide. Once both programs are completed you are eligible for Divemaster certification. If you are a Divemaster with another agency you may be able to enroll in a Divemaster crossover.

The Science of Diving program consists of five classes that are meant to create a deeper understanding of diving. This wealth of knowledge adds to a dive guides technical skill set and creates a great foundation for an instructor, or diver interested in learning more about the ins and outs of SCUBA.

Assistant Instructor

The SSI Assistant Instructor (AI) course is perfect for any diver on their path to becoming an instructor. During the AI course, you will learn what goes into classroom and pool presentations. You will practice giving classroom teaching presentations and learn how to develop knowledgeable in dive students. You will also learn about each skill taught to scuba students in confined water (pool training). You will learn and practice the teaching techniques for training scuba students and get an opportunity to work with real students.

After the course, you are able to teach pool and classroom sessions with indirect supervision from a current instructor. After completing the course the next step is Instructor.

At TRP our priority is to create Comfortable, Safe and Fun divers and instructors. That is why all of our training from the Basic Open Water course through Instructor is all done while neutrally buoyant and each level of professional training receives more than three times the training time than the recommended program.

Instructor

Our instructors have the knowledge and confidence to run open water training programs here or anywhere else in the world. While the AI program will teach you the methods, philosophies, and applications of teaching theory, it is all done in a controlled environment. Whether that be in the classroom or pool, The safety of the students and control of a group is easily managed. In the Instructor Training Course, we build on these teaching techniques and also teach them how to safely and efficiently control a group of scuba students. Once completed graduates of the Instructor Training Course can teach all aspects of the open water program and are eligible for specialty instructor ratings.

Specialty Instructor

When you are certified as an SSI Open Water Instructor, you can also qualify for further SSI Specialty Instructor ratings. To teach additional SSI Specialties, you will need to qualify by attending a Specialty Instructor seminar, co-teaching or by resume. These Specialty programs include Deep Diving, Digital Underwater Photography, Dry Suit Diving, Equipment Techniques, Ice Diver, Navigation, Night/Limited Visibility Diving, Science of Diving, Search & Recovery, Stress & Rescue, and Underwater hunting & Collecting.

Advanced Open Water Instructor (AOWI)

Once you have four Specialty Instructor certifications and you have issued 15 Specialty program certifications, you will automatically be upgraded to Advanced Open Water Instructor. After certification, Advanced Open Water Instructors are qualified to teach, supervise, or issue certifications for Advanced Open Water/Junior Advanced Open Water, Dive Guide, Science of Diving, Divemaster and Snorkel Instructor programs, plus any additional Specialties you are qualified to teach.

Freediving

The Freediving class is broken down into 2 parts. The first part of the course is called Freediving Level 1 Pool. This program consists of pool and classroom training and runs all year long. For full level 1 certification, you will need to complete the level 1 open water dives. The dives run through the Spring Summer or Fall. These dives can be completed as part of the course you are signed up for or months later if you completed the level 1 pool program during the winter.
